Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag broke his silence after Jadon Sancho started training with the club for the first time since September 2023.

After Sancho was left out of the match against Arsenal on September 3 which United lost 3-1, Ten Hag was asked the reason for the English international's exclusion.

Ten Hag explained that the decision was taken following the 24-year-old's poor performance during training sessions.

However, the Dutchman's comments were not ignored or taken lightly by Sancho who decided to speak up in order to defend himself. He didn’t play or train with the club until January and ultimately joined Borussia Dortmund on a loan deal.

After completing his six-month loan spell at the German club, Sancho returned to Man Utd and also started training under the leadership of Ten Hag.

Speaking publicly for the first time since making up with Sancho, Ten Hag said their altercation was a matter of the past and they are both focused on the upcoming season.

“As we said, we've drawn the line,” said Ten Hag, when asked about Sancho. “Manchester United needs good players and Jadon is a good player. We have drawn that line and we move on.”

"We can talk and make good on everything that was bad, but I am not that guy. I have seen that this is not the standard for top football," he said.

“In top football, we have much higher standards, and as an individual, you must make sure you are fit. I know you cannot be match fit at this moment, so we need these games to get there.

“I know we were playing against players who have a much higher fitness level but still, we are Manchester United and players from Manchester United should perform better."

Manchester United won the FA Cup last season by beating city-rivals Manchester City at Wembley and were awarded a place in the UEFA Europa League despite finishing eighth.
