West Indies thumped the USA by nine wickets on Saturday at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados, during the Super 8 match of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024.

Chasing a target of 129 runs, the West Indies reached home in 10.5 overs which gave a massive boost to their net run-rate.

West Indies just need to win their game against South Africa to progress to the semi-finals, even if England beat USA, since their their net run rate is now above the Proteas.

Shai Hope played a belligerent unbeaten knock of 82 runs in just 39 balls to help his side secure a big win. He smashed four fours and eight sixes.

Nicholas Pooran also remained unbeaten on 27 runs in 12 balls which included three sixes and a four.

Earlier, West Indies won the toss and decided to bowl first against the USA.

Batting first, the USA were bowled out for 128 in 19.5 overs after a clinical bowling display by the home side.

Roston Chase was the pick of the bowlers with career-best figures of 3-19 in four overs. Andre Russell also clinched 3-31 in 3.5 overs.

"To do it [career-best figures] at home is a great feeling, with my parents and my friends watching. It's something we talked about in the team meeting that if we don't get too many wickets in the powerplay, it's on the spinners to come back and pull the game back and that's what we did today," Chase, who was named Player of the Match, said.

"It's our destiny and our goal to win the World Cup so anyone we play we have to beat from here to go win it," he added.

Opener Andries Gous top-scored for USA with 29 runs in 16 balls. Nitish Kumar contributed 20 runs, while Ali Khan remained unbeaten on 14 runs in six balls.

Both teams lost in their respective opening Super 8 match which made this a virtual do-or-die contest.
