Lewis Hamilton triumphed at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Sunday. securing his first victory since Saudi Arabia in 2021.
This marked Hamilton's ninth career win at the British GP. He began the race in second position on the grid, behind his Mercedes teammate George Russell. However, Russell retired mid-race.
Max Verstappen finished in second place, with Lando Norris taking third.
Oscar Piastri of McLaren was fourth with Carlos Sainz of Ferrari sixth and Nico Hulkenberg of Haas seventh.
Hamilton is the oldest driver to win a Grand Prix in the 21st century and has broken a long-standing record set by Michael Schumacher.
This victory marks Hamilton's ninth win at Silverstone, making it the most wins at a single circuit in F1 history.
He was previously tied with Schumacher, who set the record in 2006 with eight wins at the French Grand Prix.
A tearful Hamilton said to his team on the radio after winning: "This means a lot guys."
Hamilton then said to Mercedes engineer Peter Bonnington: "I love you Bono."
Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff said: "I thought it would come like a fairytale here at Silverstone."
Hamilton told Sky Sports after the race: "It’s been since 2021, every day I’ve been getting up and trying to fight and train.
“This is my last race here with this team and I wanted to win this for them because I love them. I’m forever grateful for everyone at Mercedes.
“You’ve got to continue to fight even when you feel like you’re at the bottom of the barrel.
“There’s been times between now and 2021 that I haven’t felt like I’m good enough.”
It appeared that Norris was on the verge of claiming his first victory on home soil, but he was left vulnerable by his sluggish McLaren team in the unpredictable conditions.
