KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Tuesday, extended its heartfelt support and good luck to the national physical physically disabled (PD) cricket team ahead of the Champions Trophy, slated to be held in Colombo from January 12 to 21.

GM domestic cricket of PCB Junaid Zia visited the national PD cricket team’s ongoing training camp here at the Rashid Latif Cricket Academy (RLCA) and lauded the players’ passion and determination.

“The performance and passion of Pakistan physically disabled cricket team players is incredible and surprising,” said Zia.

“I learnt a lot from all of you PD cricketers, you have raised the green crescent flag of Pakistan all over the world, unfazed by your deficiency, the PCB GM told the national PD cricketers.

Zia further hailed Pakistan General Secretary of Physical Disability Cricket Association (PPDCA) Amiruddin Ansari for introducing PD cricket to the world.

“First of all I would like to thank General Secretary PPDA Amiruddin Ansari for inviting me here today.

“I also pay heartfelt tribute to PPDCA, Amiruddin Ansari and his entire team for introducing physically disabled cricket to the world.

Zia then also ensured PPDCA of the continued support of the PCB before expressing his confidence in the national team’s ability to soar high in the upcoming PD Champions Trophy.

In response, Ansari thanked Zia for visiting the training camp and expressed his hope for the PCB to ‘own’ PD cricket so that the national team continues to achieve great success.

It is pertinent to mention that the Pakistan PD team will engage in the robust training camp until January 9 before departing for Colombo.

The 10-day-long tournament features four teams – Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka and England – with each team playing other participating sides twice in the round-robin format.

Upon the completion of the group stage, the top two teams will qualify for the final, scheduled to be played on January 21.

Pakistan will start their PD Champions Trophy campaign with a high-octane clash against fierce rivals India on the opening day.
