FC Barcelona provided an update on their midfielder Pedri who got injured during the European Championship (Euro) 2024 which La Roja won by beating England in the final.
During the quarter-final against Germany, Pedri collided with Toni Kroos in the first minutes of the match and was taken off as he could not continue due to pain. The midfielder sat on the bench for the remaining Euro matches.
He returned to Barcelona today arriving at the Ciutat Esportiva training facilities in the morning and was examined by the club’s medical staff.
“The tests carried out this morning at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper have confirmed that the first-team player Pedri has an internal lateral sprain of his left knee. He is out and his evolution will mark his availability,” FC Barcelona said in a press release.
After picking injury in Euro 2024, it was reported that Pedri could be out for as long as six weeks but today’s results indicate that the midfielder may only be out for a month, which means he could return to training at the start of the next season.
Earlier on Monday, Barcelona confirmed that Ronald Araujo sustained an injury and will undergo surgery.
Araujo picked a thigh injury during the match against Brazil in the 2024 Copa America quarter-final a few days ago after which he was forced the leave the field as he could not continue due to pain.
There were doubts about whether his injury will require surgery or not but it has now been confirmed that he will undergo surgery in Finland in the upcoming days.
“Tests carried out at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper have shown that first-team player Ronald Araujo has an injury to the hamstring tendon of his right thigh,” the statement from the club read.
“In the coming days, he will undergo surgical treatment by Dr. Lasse Lempainen, under the supervision of the Club’s medical services, in Turku (Finland). At the end of the intervention, a new medical statement will be provided.”
With surgery set to take place, Araujo could be out of action for as long as four months which would keep him away from football until December.
