KARACHI: Gulshan Gabroos humbled Johar Jawans by 10 wickets, while Malir Malangs registered a crushing 70-run victory over Lyari Legends on the second day’s action of the Karachi Tape Ball Premier League (KTPL) Season 4 here at Moin Khan Academy on Sunday.
In the second match of the tournament, a combined bowling effort, followed by opening batter Ahsan Chitta’s second-innings half-century, led Gulshan Gabroos to a resounding victory in the campaign opener.
Put into bat first, Jawans’ batting unit was jolted by Jallat Khan-led Gabroos’ bowling attack and could accumulate 62/8 in their allotted six overs.
Openers Umair Butt (16) and Chota Vikki (11) were the only Jawans’ batters to amass double digits in the first innings.
Jallat Khan was the standout bowler for Jawans in the first innings, taking three wickets, while Zabi Ullah and Abdul Salam bagged two each.
In response, top-order batter Dawood Pathan’s quickfire 33-run cameo powered Gabroos to score 102/3 and secure a handy 40-run lead.
Trailing by 40 runs, the Jawans responded emphatically as they raised 125/2 in their allotted six overs to set Gabroos a formidable 86-run target.
Top-order batter Umair Butt led Jawans’ strong response with a quickfire 75 off just 19 deliveries, studded with four fours and nine sixes.
However, his efforts were quashed as Chitta’s second-innings half-century steered Gabroos to chase down the total with nine balls to spare.
Chitta smashed one four and six sixes on his way to an unbeaten 51 off 15 deliveries, while skipper Bahadur Ali contributed with a 13-ball 31.
The 10-wicket victory put Gabroos at the top of KTPL Season 4 standings.
In the third match of the tournament, M Jahangir Awan’s unbeaten half-centuries in each innings led Malir Malangs to a triumphant start.
Jahangir made 63 not out from 14 balls in the first innings and propelled his side to a mammoth total of 165/2.
The Legends only managed 86/3 in response and thus handed a massive 79-run lead to the Malangs.
Jahangir, fuelled with momentum, scored an unbeaten 57 off 20 deliveries in the second innings and helped the Malangs to set a daunting 190-run target.
In the run chase, the Legends fell short by a massive margin of 70 runs despite an unbeaten half-century from Muzammil Kamoki, who scored 79 off 24 deliveries with the help of eight fours and seven sixes.
