Pakistan opener Ahmed Shehzad expressed his disappointment and questioned the team's strategy following their 11-run defeat to South Africa in the first T20I in Durban.

The Proteas, buoyed by standout performances from George Linde and David Miller, claimed the series opener in a high-scoring encounter.

Taking to the social media platform 'X,' Shehzad voiced his concerns about Pakistan's tactical approach, particularly their decision-making in the final overs.

"Pakistan had a brilliant chance to restrict South Africa to around 150, but the defensive approach allowed them to post a very good total," Shehzad posted.

"Giving the last over to your spinner Sufiyan and exposing your youngster like tonight—this way, you won’t be able to groom any youngster. Tough chase, but I’m hoping our players will pull this off," he added.

Batting first, the hosts posted a challenging 183/9. George Linde’s explosive 48 off 24 balls and David Miller’s scintillating 82 off 40 deliveries set the tone for the Proteas.

Despite commendable efforts from Shaheen Afridi and Abrar Ahmed, who both picked up three wickets, Pakistan struggled to contain the hosts in the death overs.

Young spinner Sufiyan Muqeem conceded 53 runs in his four overs, picking up one wicket, including three sixes in the final over, which allowed South Africa to set an imposing total.

In reply, Pakistan's batting lineup fell short, managing 172/8.

Mohammad Rizwan’s gritty 74 off 62 balls and Saim Ayub’s quickfire 31 off 15 balls kept the chase alive, but the required run rate proved too steep.

George Linde shone with the ball as well, claiming 4/21, while Kwena Maphaka added two crucial wickets to seal the game for South Africa.

It is pertinent to mention that the second T20I between the two teams will take place in Centurion this Friday.
