New Zealand beat Uganda by nine wickets on Saturday at the Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, Trinidad during the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024.

Chasing a target of 41 runs, New Zealand reached home in 5.2 overs for the loss of one wicket.

Devon Conway remained unbeaten on 22 runs in 15 balls.

Riazat Ali Shah took the only wicket for Uganda after dismissing Finn Allen, who scored nine runs in 17 balls.

Earlier, New Zealand won the toss and decided to field first against Uganda.

Batting first, Uganda were bundled out for only 40 runs in 18.4 overs.

Veteran pacer Tim Southee impressed with figures of 4-1-4-3, meanwhile Mitchell Santner, Trent Boult and Rachin Ravindra claimed two wickets each.

"It was obviously a pretty clinical performance, nice to get a win. It [the pitch] has been a little tricky, trying to bring the stumps into play as much as possible," Southee said after winning the Player of the Match award.

"Extremely disappointed to play ourselves out of the tournament. You look at the side, plenty of experience and we were not at our best in the first two games. We have a proud record in World Cups in the last ten years and it has now come to an end.

"Got a nice break leading into this World Cup. Body is feeling well, I love playing for New Zealand. Dream to play cricket and I still enjoy it, so you never know," Southee added when asked if he has another World Cup left in him.

Kenneth Waiswa was the only Uganda batter who got into double figures with 11 runs in 18 balls.

Both teams are already out of the race for Super 8 since Afghanistan and West Indies have made it to the next round from Group C.
