The match between Ireland and the USA was called off due to heavy rain in Florida today. The match was first delayed countless times due to a wet outfield and was eventually called off as rain started to pour once again.
Pakistan’s hopes of qualifying for the Super 8s in the T20 World Cup 2024 were hanging by a thread with the result of this match as the country needed the USA to defeat Ireland to improve their chances.
However, as the USA and Ireland are given a point each and the USA qualifies for the next round of the T20 World Cup, Pakistan are out of the tournament and the team will return home after their game with Ireland on June 16 in Florida.
Former cricketers are taking to their X accounts (formerly Twitter) to comment on the new development and on the USA making history.
Former English cricketer Michael Vaughan took to his X account and wrote, “USA through to the Super 8s … Cricket is going to catch on in the states … !! Pakistan are out … at the moment they are along way off being a good white ball side.”
Former cricketer Mohammad Hafeez also took to his account and tweeted that, “Dilemma of Pakistan cricket * Higher officials take credits not responsibility*”
Pakistan has had a poor run at the T20 World Cup as they lost their first game of the event against the USA who are playing the tournament for the first time and then lost to arch-rivals India on June 9 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium.
Pakistan bowled magnificently in the match and restricted India to 119 but the batters failed to achieve the target of 120 runs and lost their second match of the T20 World Cup 2024.
They then went on to win against Canada that too cautiously as they restricted Canada to 106 and chased the total in the 17.3 over. The game could have been finished early but Babar Azam’s and Mohammad Rizwan’s cautious batting took the game to the end.
As for the USA, they have been splendid in their first T20 World Cup appearance. They defeated Canada in the opening match of the tournament then a few days later, they surprisingly defeated Pakistan. They only lost against India and have managed to qualify for the Super 8s.
