Former cricketer and commentator Bazid Khan has opened up on the Florida flood alert issue which can result in abandoning the three upcoming matches of the T20 World Cup 2024 scheduled there including today’s Ireland vs USA.
Talking on a local sports YouTube channel, the commentator opinionated that “matches scheduled in Florida can’t be shifted anywhere else on a whim”
“The venues were decided a long while ago and the flood alert was not carried out a year or six months ago, it is a recent warning,” stated Bazid
Bazid further stated that it is logistically impossible to shift matches from here and there in a short period as it is a long process, “and we know it is a hassle to schedule even a match. There are logistics you have to look at including the organisers, the staff and the overall execution of it. Just to say that shift matches from Florida to somewhere else is an easy thing but it is not.”
He proceeded to give an example of the Olympics to help the viewers understand the long process, “It is almost like in Olympics where a global village is set up and then you ask the Global Village to be taken somewhere where there are no matches scheduled which is practically not possible or right.
“If the International Cricket Council (ICC) does manage to do that then it is a miracle but for the ICC, the organisers and the production company, it is a very tough thing to do,” the former cricketer concluded.
The results of the Florida matches are important for Pakistan to qualify for the next round of the T20 World Cup 2024.
Pakistan needs Ireland to defeat the USA today and in tomorrow’s game between India and Canada, Pakistan needs India to defeat Canada.
Pakistan will then play their last group match against Ireland on June 16 and have to defeat them by a significant margin but if the rain keeps on pouring, it will wash away Pakistan’s hope to qualify for the Super-8s.
